Over Christmas we spent some time in Seattle visiting my brother. It was the middle of winter, and the city was pretty quiet, but we were blessed with three days of sun and some great glimpses of the city’s character.
The Pike Place MarketA little reminder of home – “Down Under” (downstairs) in the Pike Place Market
The Pike Place Market is trapped halfway between the CBD and the waterfront, and is one of the busiest places we visited. It is a mixture of traditional and quirky which I couldn’t quite capture.

For reasons I can’t quite explain, I feel that this shot of the Seattle CBD from near the Port headquarters on the waterfront best captures the mix of the industrial port and new commercial in downtown. You also get a great sense of this as you cross the CBD streets and get a glimpse down the hill to a bulk carrier in the harbour below.
